The Knowles Science Teaching Foundation (KSTF) Teaching Fellowships

The  Knowles Science Teaching Foundation (KSTF) Teaching Fellowships

The KSTF Teaching Fellowships program supports exceptional young men and women committed to teaching mathematics and science in our nation’s high schools.  KSTF awarded its first four Teaching Fellowships in 2002. To date, there are 190 Teaching Fellows and alumni nationwide across 40 states.  Since the program’s inception, KSTF Fellows have impacted more than 150,000 students.

The Teaching Fellowship is designed explicitly to meet the needs of teachers from the time they begin working on a teaching credential through the early years of their career.  The Fellowship includes professional and leadership development, teaching tools and materials, and access to a network of like-minded colleagues nationwide.

KSTF recognizes that learning to teach is a life-long process, with critical benchmarks and challenges along the way.  KSTF designed its Fellowship to support outstanding beginning teachers in becoming true professionals—informed by both theory and the wisdom of practice, with resources to hone their knowledge and skill, and empowered by a strong, supportive community of other teachers and scholars.

Fellowship Criteria

KSTF Biology, Physical Science and Mathematics Teaching Fellows are chosen from among individuals who have earned or are in the process of earning a degree in science, mathematics or engineering from a recognized institution of higher education. Fellowships are offered to individuals committed to teaching high school mathematics, physical sciences or biological sciences.

Applicants should have received their most recent content (i.e., science, mathematics or engineering) degree within five years of the start of the fellowship (June 1 of the application year).   An individual who is in the final year of an undergraduate, master’s, combined BS with MAT or MEd program or near the completion of a doctoral program in a content area may also be eligible.  Applicants who have earned a content degree within the last five years and are currently enrolled in a secondary teaching

credential program at the time of application, or have completed their secondary credential no earlier than the fall term before the application deadline, are also eligible to apply.

Applicants must be enrolled or plan to enroll in a recognized teacher education program that leads to a secondary science or mathematics teaching license. At the time of application, applicants do not need to be admitted into a teacher education program. However, successful applicants must be admitted into such a program before the fellowships are awarded in June.
