Welcome to Blue Valley. Located in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area, the Blue Valley School District has a well-established reputation for excellence. Because of our students’ outstanding academic achievements, we are among the top public school districts in the nation.
Blue Valley teachers strive to provide an Education Beyond Expectations and to achieve unprecedented academic success throughout our 33 schools. It is our mission to equip each one of our 21,629 students in grades Pre K -12 to accomplish more than they ever imagined.
We hold ourselves to high standards and it pays off. Our students make us proud year after year. For eight consecutive years now, the district, every Blue Valley school, every grade level and every subgroup has made AYP in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act and that’s just the beginning of what makes Blue Valley special.
How do we do it? It starts with a sense of connection among colleagues. Part of what makes that possible is a districtwide focus on Professional Learning Communities. Professional Learning Communities enable teachers across grade levels and subject areas to collaborate and learn from each other, fine-tune teaching techniques that will personalize learning for each student and help them maximize their potential.
In Blue Valley, Professional Learning Communities have helped us build a strong team-oriented setting. Teachers work together to answer the following questions as they educate each and every student: What do we want students to learn? How will we know they are learning? What are we going to do if they don’t learn? What do we do if students already know it?

Strategic planning leads to success
Professional Learning Communities have been a feature in Blue Valley’s strategic plan since 2005. This plan has helped us achieve the results we want for teachers, staff and especially for students. Here’s a sampling of some our academic results:
Blue Valley Virtues: a vital ingredient for success
The Blue Valley Virtues: respect, responsibility, honesty, perseverance, self-discipline, compassion and courage are a part of who we are. Walk into any school and you will see them in the décor and feel them in the way we treat one another. Our staff and community support character education vigorously through community service projects and volunteer opportunities and we have built it into daily life for students at every level. Blue Valley students begin learning the seven Blue Valley virtues right along with the academic curriculum from the beginning. It’s one more way we support our goal of unparalleled personal growth for every student.
Celebrating diversity
From outstanding academic excellence, to solid character education, to our unwavering commitment to professional development, we have many reasons to celebrate in Blue Valley. Add to this list the many world cultures represented by Blue Valley students and staff: sixty-two languages are spoken across the Blue Valley population. Throughout our school year students, families and staff have daily opportunities to learn and appreciate each one of them. We celebrate diversity in Blue Valley because we know it makes us strong. Diversity helps to create the deep-seated sense of progress and hope that permeates life in Blue Valley. No matter where a student starts or where they want to go, Blue Valley teachers have the tools and the support they need to provide Education Beyond Expectations to each and every one.
