Killeen ISD, TX

killeenlogoKilleen is located in Central Texas, approximately 60 miles northwest of Austin.  Fort Hood, the largest military
installation in the free world, is nearby.  KISD is a very progressive and diverse school district with great teaching opportunities.  We have 30 elementary schools, 11 middle schools, and 4 high schools.  We hire over 300 teachers every year with about 25 openings in mid-year.  We have approximately 39,000 students.

Although our district is large, there is a sense of closeness usually found only in a small district.  We are a very caring community, and we want all of our teachers tosucceed.  We have a strong, well-managed mentorship program for new teachers, an 8-day induction-year program that models best practice KISD style, and an excellent professional development department, offering over one hundred different workshops for all of our employees in the summer as well as many other workshops throughout the year.  We have computer labs on every campus with a campus technologist to assist our teachers in using technology in the classroom.  Every campus has a campus instructional specialist–a master teacher whose sole job is to manage campus professional development and curriculum and to assist new teachers with lesson planning, classroom management, classroom resources, nurturing, and any other needs they may have. We also have an awesome media center centrally located with evening and weekend hours.
