South Orange & Maplewood School District, NJ

southorangeThe South Orange and Maplewood School District located in Maplewood, New Jersey is a K-12 school district committed to academic excellence with high expectations for the achievement of all children.  Our District is comprised of six elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school.  Each day in the South Orange and Maplewood School District, more than 550 teachers engage almost 6,100 children in a wide variety of lessons to help them become critical thinkers, grow to have a better understanding of the world around them, and be ready to compete in a complex environment.  Our children are 46% black, 43% white and 11% other; 17% of the aforementioned are classified as economically disadvantaged.  The district’s curriculum has been developed with an understanding of the importance of keeping children involved and meeting their individual needs, taking into account the community’s diverse student population.  We are proud of our diversity and are determined to close the achievement gap that exists in our District.  We are also proud of the 76% of our graduates who move on to four-year colleges and universities.
Mtn-School-Spirit-Day-2To ensure success in this effort, the district has adopted a set of four goals that will articulate the fundamental, long-term aspirations of the schools of  South  Orange-Maplewood. These goals will promote the intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth of all students; staff the South Orange – Maplewood Public Schools with exceptional professionals; promote effective communication within the schools and throughout the greater community; and manage fiscal and facilities resources effectively and efficiently.
The district administration and staff are committed to creating a positive learning environment for all students. Parents and community members are encouraged to assist in this important endeavor by becoming involved in the educational process. Everyone is invited to engage with administrators and teaching staff, to tutor and mentor children through a variety of community programs, and to support schools by joining the Parent Teacher Association/Home and School Association and the myriad of other parent organizations that support students. This way, a true partnership between home and school is developed and all stakeholders can participate in the education process as a community of learners.

Our School District is seeking qualified teaching candidates who will flourish in this environment.  We have openings at all levels of instruction and all job openings are posted on our district’s website www.southorangemaplewood.org 03-09-Music-Marathon-2
