The Town of Needham is located 10 miles west of Boston in a loop of the Charles River. Originally a get-away for Bostonians, Needham is now a popular suburban community. Needham’s population has grown about 5.3% in the past ten years to 29,019 residents. During the same period the school population has increased by 24.7%. About 27% of
the Needham population is under 18, while almost 17% is over 65. Demographics have changed in the last decade. The community’s population is becoming more diverse; 11% of the school population and 6% of the town population in non-white.
The Needham Public Schools is one of the highest performing districts in the State.
The school system prides itself on its hands-on approach to challenges, continuous improvement, data driven decision-making, honest communication, concern for achievement of all students and attention to how staff, finances, planning and community satisfaction play key roles in a student’s experience. The school system is the beneficiary of significant community financial support. That support is evident through the breadth and depth of curricular offerings, low teacher/student ratio, and a very high quality faculty. The Needham Public Schools seeks to inspire students to be engaged and fulfilled in their learning, committed to their community, and willing to act with passion, integrity and courage.
